The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has recently launched the Sangyaan App for its personnel. The App will provide comprehensive knowledge to staff about three criminal laws– the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)- 2023, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS)- 2023, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA)- 2023– that will come into effect from today, July 1, 2024.
About the Sangyaan App
- The App will provide in-depth information about these laws and empower them to ensure adherence. It will educate personnel about the provisions of the new and the old criminal laws, with a focus on provisions that are relevant to RPF.
- The App has been designed while keeping use-friendliness at the centre. RPF personnel will be able to easily navigate through the App. It allows fast data search.
- The App is available for both Android and iOS users who can access the features offline as well.
Major features of the Sangyaan App
- Comprehensive Legal Access: The App enables users to get access to the provisions of the three Acts. They can avail of the features conveniently.
- Comparison of Laws: The App compares the sections of the new and old laws in a user-friendly manner. This feature gives comprehensive knowledge about the changes in the Acts.
- Section-wise Analysis: The App provides an in-depth sectional analysis while emphasising their application.
- Advanced Search Tools: The App has been equipped with advanced search features that provide the utmost ease in navigation and searches for relevant information.
- Inclusive Legal Database: Besides providing information about the newly drafted criminal acts, the App also contains information about other critical Acts and Laws relevant to RPF and railway protection. The personnel can get comprehensive knowledge about the provisions of the Railway Protection Force Act of 1957, the Railway Act of 1989, the Railway Property (Unlawful Possession) Act of 1966, and the RPF Rules of 1987.
What are the new criminal laws?
- Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023
- The BNS 2023 will replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC) of 1860.It contains most of the provisions of the IPC. However, it also introduces new offences, such as criminalising deceitful promises to marriage, criminalising attempts to suicide, etc.It deletes Adultery, unnatural sexual offences, and thugs (Section 310 of IPC).
- It has modified sedition provisions.
- Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023
- The BNSS 2023 will replace the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrCP) of 1973.It includes provisions related to time-bound investigation.
- It necessitates video recording of statements of sexual assault victims.
- Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), 2023
- The BSA 2023 will replace the Indian Evidence Act of 1872.
- It focuses on technology inclusion, such as digitisation of all records.
