After a landslide victory in the recently held assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo N Chandrababu Naidu took oath as the chief minister of the state. Along with him, Pawan Kalyan, chief of the Jana Sena Party (JSP), also took oath as the deputy chief minister of the state.

- In the assembly elections, TDP emerged as the single largest party by winning 135 seats in a house of 175 members.
- The JSP won 21 seats; YSRCP won 11 seats; and BJP won 8 seats.

About N Chandrababu Naidu
- Born in 1950, Chandrababu Naidu is a prominent political figure in India.
- He is the son-in-law of the TDP founder and former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh N T Rama Rao. He has been leading TDP since 1995.
- With this swearing-in, Naidu has assumed the charge of AP’s CM for the fourth time, and second time after the bifurcation in 2014. He first became the CM in 1995.
- In the early days of his political career, he was associated with the Indian National Congress (INC).
- He is known as a progressive leader who has accelerated the IT-led growth of the state economy.
About Andhra Pradesh
- Formed in 1953 on a linguistic basis, Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated in 2014, leading to the formation of Telangana. Hyderabad city is the capital of both the states. However, Amravati is proposed to be redeveloped as Andhra’s capital.
- Potti Sreeramulu, a Gandhian and social activist, undertook a hunger strike in October 1952, with the demand for the formation of a separate state for Telugu-speaking people. After 56 days of fasting, he died. This incident forced the government to rethink the people’s demands, resulting in the formation of the state.
- The state is known as the “Egg Bowl of Asia” as it is the largest egg producer in India.
- It forms the boundary with six Indian states- Odisha, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Chattisgarh, and Puducherry (Yanam).
- The famous Kuchipudi dance belongs to the state.
- Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, which is one of the largest in Asia, is situated in the state on Krishna River.
