In the recently held assembly election in Arunachal Pradesh, the BJP emerged as the winner, retaining its hold on power in the state for the third consecutive term. In Sikkim, the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) recorded a landslide victory.
Key highlights
- The BJP won 46 seats in an assembly having 60 seats. The National People’s Party (NPP) won five seats, the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) got two seats, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) got three seats, the Congress got one, and independent candidates grabbed the remaining three seats.
- AP’s Chief Minister Prema Khandu won the Mukto constituency uncontested as no party fielded candidates against him.
- The SKM won 31 seats out of 32. The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) won one seat. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang won from two constituencies.
- Assembly elections in these states were held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections.
