Dinesh Karthik announces retirement from all formats of cricket

India’s veteran wicketkeeper-batsman, Dinesh Karthik has officially announced his retirement from all cricket formats. He informed his decision through a post on social media platform, ‘X’.

About Dinesh Karthik

  • Karthik made his international debut in an ODI against England in 2004 under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly.
  • In test cricket, he started his journey against Australia in 2004.
  • He was the captain of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Team in domestic cricket.
  • He was also a member of the Indian team in the T20 World Cup in 2007 which India won.
  • In the IPL, he played for six franchises, including Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Mumbai Indians (MI), Delhi Daredevils (DD), Kings XI Punjab, and Gujarat Lions. He made his debut in the IPL with Delhi Daredevils which is now renamed as Delhi Capitals.
  • He is married to famous Indian squash player Dipika Pallikal.

  • Karthik played 180 international matches across formats and scored 3463 runs.
  • Karthik was the 4th batsman from India to play 300 matches in the T20 format.
  • He was more successful in the IPL in which he played 257 matches and scored 4842 runs with 22 fifties.
  • In the latest season IPL 2024, he played for RCB. He appeared in 15 matches and made 326 runs. His strike rate, 187.36, was quite impressive in the season.
  • He is a cricket commentator as well.
