Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty will receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2022 for his outstanding contributions to the Indian film industry. He will be honoured with the award during the 70th National Film Awards ceremony scheduled for October 8. He is the 54th film personality to be honoured with this prestigious award.
About Mithun Chakraborty
- Born in 1950, Mithun began his acting career with the Mrinal Sen-directed Mrigayaa in 1976. For his exceptional performance in the film, Mithun won the National Film Award for Best Actor. He is the only actor to have won this prestigious award for his debut film.
- Mithun became a household name with his film Disco Dancer, released in 1982.
- He won three National Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards, and three IIFA Awards, among others.
- Mithun holds a unique record in the Limca Book of Records for 19 film releases in 1989.
- He was also awarded Padma Bhushan in 2024.
- He was also a Rajya Sabha MP.
About the Dadasaheb Phalke Award
- It is the highest and most prestigious award in the field of cinema in India. The recipients are honoured with a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus), a shawl, and a cash prize of Rs.1,000,000.
- The Government of India introduced the award in 1969 in recognition of Dadasaheb Phalke’s contributions to the Indian film industry. Phalke is known as “the father of Indian cinema.”
- In 1969, the first Dadasaheb Phalke award was given to actress Devika Rani.
