Indian Army starts inducting the Akashteer Control and Reporting System

The Indian Army began the induction of the ‘Akashteer Control and Reporting System’ with the aim of enhancing its air defence capabilities in order to safeguard the Indian airspace. The first batch of control centres was flagged off from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Ghaziabad.

About Project Akashteer

  • This project is designed to boost the operational efficiency of the air defence system of the Indian Army by digitising defence control and reporting processes.
  • The project aims to empower the army with situational awareness while allowing them to safeguard their aircraft and initiate actions against hostile aircraft in the disputed airspace.
  • It has been developed by the BEL as part of the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.
  • The control centres of the systems are vehicle-based and mobile, which can maintain the highest level of operational efficiencies even in challenging communication environments.
  • Due to their high capabilities, the Indian Army will now be able to quickly respond to security threats.
